Medical Consultations

Physicians with the Endocrinology Consultants of East Tennessee serve as subspecialty consultants to many other physicians throughout this area.   Because patients are referred to this Group from about 200 miles around Knoxville, the clinical staff has a good working relationship with the hundreds of physicians who refer patients to the Group for evaluation.

Overall Patient Care

The Endocrinology Consultants of East Tennessee strive to give the best possible patient care.  We do not attempt to replace or serve as your primary care physician.  Every patient referred to our office must have a primary care physician in our service area to treat other illnesses and conditions you may have.  It is also important to have a primary care physician for us to refer back to when your treatment at our office is complete.

Ultrasound

In order to identify and treat endocrine problems quickly, we utilize an all-digital, high-resolution ultrasound imaging system with Color Power Doppler.

Bone Densitometry

DEXA Machine

Patients get DEXA bone density scans done in a comfortable in-office setting. The scans are both fast and painless.

Every woman past menopause may be at risk for osteoporosis.  Even if you eat a healthy diet rich in calcium and exercise every day, it may not be enough to protect you from bone loss and fractures.  The great news is, thanks to advances in medical science, osteoporosis is now a treatable disease.  To diagnose and treat Osteoporosis, we use a state-of-the-art DEXA machine.  Having a DEXA is a fast, simple and painless way to determine how healthy your bones are.  The test measures bone mass and helps predict your risk for future fractures.  The results of the test will help you and your physician decide the best course of action to take.

Biopsy and Fine Needle Aspirations

It is sometimes necessary to take a direct sample of tissue in order to properly diagnose some some conditions.  This sampling is done by techniques called biopsy and fine needle aspirations.

Laboratory Testing

Because the diagnosis and management of medical problems involving the endocrine system are often complex, your doctor may request laboratory tests be performed.  The hormones of the endocrine system impact may body processes and laboratory tests can help your doctor understand which processes are being impacted, the hormones and endocrine conditions causing the the problem and treatment options.

The Endocrinology Consultants of East Tennessee has it's own  High Complexity Laboratory on the premises that can perform many of the tests your doctors might request.  The tests done in our laboratory can often be performed while you are here so your doctor can have the information at the time you are seen.  You may be asked to come in before your doctor will actually meet with you for sample collection and testing if your doctor needs the results before you are seen.   There are blood tests and urine tests that can yield important information that may need to be periodically monitored.  With medical conditions such as diabetes and those involving the thyroid it is especially important that diabetes related tests and thyroid related tests be done periodically to let you doctor know how your treatment is progressing.  In some cases the needed laboratory test may have to be sent to an outside referral laboratory and results may not be available for a week or more.
