The endocrine system is a complex group of glands that create hormones to help control activities in your body. An endocrinologist is a specially trained doctor that diagnoses and treats diseases that affect these glands. We offer services that are geared towards the treatment of hormonal imbalances and the promotion of endocrine wellness.
We recognize that high quality care requires a balanced approach, and is precisely why we offer the bulk of our services in-house. Generally our services fall into one of the following three categories:
The physicians and other healthcare providers at Endocrinology Consultants serve as sub-specialty consultants to your primary care doctor. The effective treatment of endocrine disorders requires timely communications between the specialist, primary care provider, and other sub-specialty doctors that make up your "care team." Once a medical consultation has been conducted at one of our convenient locations, your primary care physician will typically receive the results of your visit within two to three days. In addition, you may access a clinical summary of your visit by registering with our patient portal.
LABORATORY & DIAGNOSTICS
It is not uncommon for your healthcare provider to request several laboratory tests as part of your visit. The hormones of the endocrine system impact many bodily processes and lab tests can help us better understand which processes are being impacted, the hormones and endocrine conditions causing the problem, and which treatment options would best suit your condition.
Endocrinology Consultants of East TN has an in-house laboratory that can perform many of the tests your healthcare provider might request. The tests performed by our laboratory are often performed on the same day as your office visit, however, you may be asked to have your sample collected in advance so that we have an opportunity to review your lab results in advance. There are blood tests and urine tests that can yield
important information that may need to be periodically monitored, especially when managing medical conditions such as diabetes and those involving the thyroid. Periodic testing allows your doctor to assess how your treatment is progressing and make any necessary adjustments. In some cases, the needed laboratory tests may have to be sent to an outside facility. In this situation, results may not be available for a week or more. Your healthcare provider will select the laboratory tests that make the most sense for your medical condition and explain how those lab results relate to your overall wellness.
